Sustainability / Materiality
Developing renewable energy projects in harmony with local communities and society is at the center of ENEOS Renewable Energy’s values. Creating long-term relationships is essential for us to maintain our social license to operate, and therefore is essential to the success of our business. Our social responsibility goes beyond just our neighbors – it extends to empowering local communities and promoting an understanding of the importance of renewable energy.
Continuous and transparent engagement with local communities to build mutual understanding is a central element to our project development. During the development phase, we hold two-way communication through briefing sessions and on-site explanation meetings. We explain how potential future activities may impact local communities, and encourage them to ask questions to learn more about our projects. Throughout construction and operation of our sites, we strive to maintain this continuous communication with our stakeholders. For more details on our stakeholder communication process, please visit our Features of Business page.
Should local residents or other interested parties want to raise a question with us at any time, we encourage them to do so via our inquiries page.
Our renewable energy business is supported by the understanding and cooperation of local communities. As an entity that utilizes local natural energy resources, we strive to give back value that local communities can appreciate positively. In advancing our business operations, we actively promote the employment of local personnel and transactions with local businesses and companies with regional foundations. Additionally, we implement scholarship programs for local students, assistance with schoolbag purchases, donations including corporate hometown tax contributions, participation in festivals and cleanup activities, and educational outreach programs and site visits for local schools, taking a multifaceted approach to regional development and nurturing the next generation, which we expand year by year. In fiscal 2024, we established a dedicated department to promote regional co-creation, further strengthening these initiatives. Through deepening collaboration with municipalities where our power plants are located, we have concluded comprehensive partnership agreements with nine municipalities through July 2025. Participation in local events has also increased significantly, and we have revised our reporting from volunteer participation (reported until fiscal 2023) to “participation in local events.”
In 2025, with the aim of expanding regional products, we became the first renewable energy company to collaborate with the Isetan Mitsukoshi department store group on regional product development. Moving forward, ENEOS Renewable Energy will continue to contribute to the development of local communities through our renewable energy power generation business and as a good corporate citizen.
